Happy Life Day!
The Unoffical Star Wars Holiday Special Trading Cards You Didn't Know You Wanted!
Happy Life Day! As we bid farewell to the holiday season, let's take a moment to reflect on the year gone by and cherish the moments spent with our loved ones. And what better way to wrap up the festivities than by celebrating with your favorite Wookie family?
One quirky tradition I love sharing with my friends and family, especially those with a good sense of humor, is revisiting the hilariously bad Star Wars Holiday Special. This year, I've taken my appreciation to new heights by crafting a unique video where I've created a set of movie trading cards inspired by this much-maligned bootlegged classic. If you're curious, you can watch the video…here, and I've even provided a helpful template for you to make your own trading cards.
While it's easy to point out the flaws in the Star Wars Holiday Special, I've decided to embrace the challenge this year and highlight three things I genuinely enjoy about this otherwise ridiculous cinematic experience. Let's dive into them:
1. Boba Fett's Premier
Undoubtedly, the most noteworthy segment of the Star Wars Holiday Special is the animated adventure, "The Faithful Wookie," introducing the iconic Boba Fett. This segment, exclusively released on Disney Plus in 2022, features a unique animation style crafted by the Canadian studio Nelvana, known for later animating the Ewoks and Droids cartoons. The animation's charm reminds me of another underrated Nelvana gem, "Rock and Rule."
2. Return to Mos Eisley
The original Star Wars cantina scene is etched in our memories, and I recall collecting action figures inspired by its eclectic creatures. The Holiday Special's cantina scene, despite its silliness, provides a closer look at the incredible creature designs from the 1977 film. Many of these costumes were reused, offering fans a deeper connection to the Star Wars universe and inspiring imaginative storytelling.
3. You Can't Put a Price on Memories
Amidst the flaws, the Star Wars Holiday Special holds a unique place in my heart as a piece of nostalgia. Despite being a blight on Star Wars history, it offered a clearer glimpse into the expansive Star Wars mythos. Personally, it holds sentimental value as I watched it on its original airing night in 1978 with family members who are no longer with us.
What about you? Do you have any guilty pleasures or aspects of the Star Wars Holiday Special that you secretly enjoy? Whether it's for its flaws or unexpected highlights, I'd love to hear your thoughts.
As a special treat, I'll be releasing a very limited number of handmade card packs on my website, Serkworks.com. Given the popularity of my gross sticker backs, you'll want to grab these before they're gone. And if you enjoy the creative projects I undertake, consider joining me on Patreon, where you can gain early access to videos and access various assets and working files to fuel your own creative endeavors.
That's a wrap for this week. Until next time, keep creating awesome things, even if they're inspired by something as uniquely challenging as the Star Wars Holiday Special. May the creative force be with you!
