What a Year! My Favorite Retro Art Projects of 2024!
Bonus! FREE Sound Effects Font! My Holiday Gift to You!
Greeting mad makers!
It’s been a month since my last project video. I’ve been super busy wrapping up a big comic book project and since many of you create comics or cool art projects I have a special holiday gift for you. It’s “ BURN”, a smoking hot sound effects font that you can download for FREE.
With the New Year right around the corner, my head is spinning with all the fun projects I would like to create in 2025. But before that happens I want to look back at the amazing projects that gave me so much joy bringing to life last year.
Burger King Coca-Cola Star Wars Wax Packs
Burger King/Burger Chef and Coca-Cola partnered with the Star Wars franchise in the 70s and 80s. To produce a number of memorable promotions from drinking glasses to pop-up kids' meals. I was inspired to reproduce the iconic BK Star Wars trading cards but package them like vintage wax packs complete with an extra-large stick of bubble gum and stickers based on the beautiful drinking glass art.
Slaughter Pops
I’ve created a few projects featuring classic monsters from horror movies but hadn't dipped my toes in the slasher genre, That is until I reimagined lovable Otter Pop frozen treats as slasher movie villains, a creation I call “Slaughter Pops.”
Alien Underoos
It may seem odd to create a children's product based on a rated-R film, but this was a real thing in the 70s, 80s, and 90s. The movie Alien attempted this unsuccessfully with a line of toys and games aimed at kids. I wanted to take this concept to the extreme by imagining a world where Underoos licensed the characters from Alien.
Sad Dip
Last year I set out to conger up the most disgusting candy ever! The result was something truly awful- Sad Dip! My twisted reimagining of Fun Dip complete with gut-clinching flavors like broccoli, onion, mushroom, pickle, and beet. Bon appetite!
Custom Colorforms
Last but not least is my favorite project of 2024 my Mecha vs Kaiju Corlorform set. This was my most elaborate project come to life. Complete in the box with a gate-fold play board, instructional booklet, and lots of awesome clings you can use to play out devastating scenes of mayhem and destruction. I loved the project so much that I created a second one: the Star Wars colorform set we never got!
And there you have it, just a few of my favorite creative projects from last year. Do you have any suggestions for retro Gen-X inspired projects you would like to see in 2025? Let me know!
Don't forget my Patreon has an archive of all the project files I’ve created over the past couple of years
That's all for this month. Until next time, keep making awesome stuff!
I'm looking forward to it. Happy New Year!
Happy New Year Skott! Looks like you have been having a blast in '24. Can't wait to see what you come up with in '25
